In 2024 we began making some important changes to improve our ethical scoring system. For a long time we have scored companies out of 15. A company started with a score of 15 and marks were deducted for problematic policy or practice.
We are now moving to a scoring system out of 100. Companies will start with a score of 0 and points will be gained for good policy/practice, or taken away for bad policy/practice or for third-party criticisms.
This new scoring system will be clearer and allows for greater nuance. As before, our research will remain transparent so you will be able to see exactly why we have given a company its score in each category.
All the companies currently on the database will remain there, but from 2024 we will begin to update them using our new system. Until we have conducted all these updates, we have decided for simplicity of communication to make all the total scores out of 100, even if a company has not yet been updated using our new methodology. For example, if a company scored 3/15 in the old system, we will show its proportional score out of 100. In this case it would be 20/100.
The changeover online is happening in early-mid April. |
